Polynesian Dance

Learn Polynesian Dance :-)

Class Dates:

  • Sundays 2:00 - 3:30 PM
What To Expect:

Move your body to the beautiful rhythms of the Polynesian Islands! Two of the most well-known and entertaining traditions of the Polynesian Islands are the dances of Hula, from Hawaii, and Ori Tahiti, from Tahiti. Hula is fluid and graceful while Ori Tahiti is more rhymic and emphasizes the hips. Although each dance has a unique flavor, they are similar in that they both began as accompaniments to the oral storytelling traditions of these Pacific islands. Through dance they convey the literal meaning of a tale. Come be part of the story with us!

In this class you'll learn proper form, technique, and basic terminology. We will also learn the beautiful choreography that represents the art and grace of the Polynesian islands. No prior experience is needed.

Please wear fitness attire. We will dance in bare feet and use a hip scarf. You may bring your own scarf, or we have a selection of colorful scarves for purchase.

Join us, and experience a taste of the tropics right here in the lowcountry!
